Welcome to our August Newsetter
We are well into the holidays at Firespiral HQ, and with 6 children between us 'holidays' are no holiday! Being mothers, homemakers and business owners means a very special type of juggling. Lightning role changes from entertainer to taxi driver to businesswoman....I'm currently sitting writing a newsletter whilst shouting at 3 small people who have decided to paint the recently cleaned patio doors with mud. All are shouting at the tops of their voices so it isn't even peaceful destruction...
It is tough sometimes but we wouldn't change it for a minute.
On the subject of mothering, it was World Breastfeeding Week last week. Breastfeeding, like slinging, has been an integral part of mothering our young children and again like slinging has been a tool for comfort as well as nourishment. Jen and I both breastfed our young children well past the UK norm and will remember those days with pride, wistful for the days when a boob was enough to solve just about any problem.
As a babywearing consultant and sling librarian, I am often asked by new parents for a 'sling that I can breastfeed in'. I think that they believe this magical solution is the way to reclaim some of the enormous amount of time that is spent on a sofa with a tiny, insatiably hungry baby attached to one breast after the other.
In reality, breastfeeding a newborn in a sling or carrier requires full maternal attention and at least one hand supporting baby to ensure that baby's airways are protected, so perhaps it is easier to sit (or lie) down after all!
As baby gets older and stronger, breastfeeding in a sling becomes much easier to the point when your toddler can simply help themselves whilst on the move...
This brilliant guest blog post by Carmen Pagor covers some of the practicalities of breastfeeding in your sling.
Our release this month is Garnet Callisto Kaleidoscope
Garnet Callisto Kaleidoscope is an amazing blend of 72% cotton 16% hemp and 12% viscose. This brilliant blend produces a wrap that is medium weight in hand and that has super wrapping powers!
It is brilliantly mouldable, rock solid with a little bounce. All in all a beautiful wrap to take you from the final days of summer into autumn and winter where it will work (and look) just as good!
Our #Fispijuly winner is Tuva Tovslid. I chose this one as it screams summer at me, and who wouldn't want to see a beautiful wrap, daisy and chubby baby foot in the same picture <3. Tuva, please contact us so that we can send you a prize!
The tag for this month is #FISPIAUGUST, please get tagging so that we see your photos when we search for them.
#ISPYFISPI July winner
Our winner this month is Katherine Tuck. Katherine's sister bought some Galena Moorland Seafoam cloth from our website and made her sister this beautiful snood for her birthday. Don't they look beautiful together? Katherine, please contact us so that we can send you a prize!
And here is a collage made up of a few more of my favourites - as always, so many more could have made the cut. Thank you for sharing!
