European Babywearing Week 2023

european babywearing week 2023

European Babwearing Week celebrates all the benefits of carrying your baby in a sling, and the theme this year is ‘Facets of Babywearing’.

The event runs from the 8th – 14th May, with each day focused on a different ‘facet’ to show the breadth of babywearing benefits out there.

As part of our EBW celebration we’re offering a 25% discount on all woven wraps and ring slings, valid until the 22nd May 2023!

Monday’s focus is on babywearing and prematurity.

Whilst premature babies may need more attention and care to be carried in a sling, they can also benefit greatly from it. Not all carriers are suitable from newborn, but a woven wrap can offer the perfect support for skin to skin care because of how snugly they can mould to your baby, offering seamless support to protect tiny airways and keep them in a safe position. The ‘wrap’ element of a woven wrap sling can also make them very comfortable for ‘skin to skin’ carrying where you may have few (or no) layers of clothing on underneath the wrap!

Whilst woven wraps are designed to be used from birth, we recommend that you seek personalised support for carrying your preemie, either from a doula, babywearing consultant or sling- trained health professional.

Tuesday’s facet theme is “United in Diversity”.
Babywearing is a world-wide phenomenon that can be traced back through pre-history and is intertwined with our development as an entire species. The array of modern carriers available today is a result of the many different carrying methods that developed within each culture, in response to their specific needs (climate, lifestyle etc).
It is important to acknowledge and protect the variety of babywearing methods out there, and to remember that there is no universal ‘best way’ that will work for everyone. By sharing knowledge as a community we can support the diverse and unique needs of every individual.
