Close up of some of the weft threads in Kokiri Mercury Birch Trees. There are two green cottons (an olive and a spring green) that are present throughout all of the cloth, but the other, linen threads change hue and tone on every wrap. When one cone of linen ran out during weaving, it was replaced in the pattern by a slightly different cone. This makes every wrap in this release slightly unique!

A video of Jen working out the GSM of Kokiri Mercury Birch Trees. To calculate the GSM of any wrap you need to:
1) find 3 measurements: the weight in grams and the length & width in metres. I got 880g, 3.93m and 0.69m on a washed but unironed wrap.
2)Multiply the length and width to calculate the area. (0.69x3.93=2.71m)
3)Divide the weight by the area. (880/2.71=325gsm )

So the GSM for this wrap came out at around 325, but there are variables that can affect that figure, so we usually take an average of calculations from several different wraps, done by different people.

The selvedge end of each roll.of cloth is like a tree ring, giving you a glimpse of the whole cloth on there. You can see how the linen changes colour throughout the roll. For the most part it is just a slight shift in the temperature of the neutral beiges, but there will be a couple of wraps that have a forest green, mint or dark teal element to the weft making them completely unique.
